The Adventurous Gang
One Saturday afternoon following a movie show,
Blair said, “I know just where we can go.”
From Capitol Hill he pointed straight to the north,
So, towards the skyscrapers we started forth.
He thrilled us with stories of a giant toy store,
That’s all it took we needed no more.
After a very long and tiring march,
We had lost a bit of our former starch.
But when we entered the giant’s domain,
Fatigue was forgotten as we went insane.
In and out of buildings, up and down street after street,
We saw some annoying looks from the people we’d meet.
We counted the rows of windows on each monstrous wall,
Never had we been near anything so tall.
Finally, we realized we were hungry and beat,
And saw too much real-estate to stage a retreat.
We dug out our money; each and every one of us,
Hoping to have enough for the bus.
We gave a happy shout for there was some to spare,
Enough for two ice creams; we all had to share.
Once back at Capitol Hill; we debarked from the bus,
We were out of options; the rest was up to us.
Half a mile down the road we heard someone shout,
We could tell by her look, sometime she had been out.
Since Larry was new to our neighborhood,
Our roaming nature was not yet understood.
