A Summer Day
As the fiery orb scorched us from up high,
We ran and played beneath a cloudless sky.
Stay on the grass if your feet were bare,
To walk on the blacktop would be a crazy dare.
Out we’d stay until our throats were parched,
Then to the shade the tired troops would march.
If we had any water, it was hotter than we,
Yet, we’d gulp it down like cold iced tea.
Beneath a shelter from the blazing heat,
We’d crash like soldiers in need of sleep.
After we rested for a little while,
The jokes would fly and bring back the smiles.
Then out again into the searing sun,
Life was good for summer had begun!
