Daydreams
I would return to the days of my youth; if only a magic fountain I could find,
So once again I could run and jump; and have youthful happiness on my mind.
If I could remove the wrinkles of age; and once again sing a young man’s song,
I wonder if the trade would be fair; a lifetime of knowledge for a body young and strong.
Some days I would say, “yes” when my body hurts me so,
To stop the maddening pain; I would trade most everything that I know.
But the magic water has not been found; as my aching bones rest in the shade,
I secretly wish to myself; from this life I could quietly fade.
