The Addict
I resisted for many years, I said
“No; it’s not for me,
Please, leave me alone
I like the life that you see.”
They kept after me saying
“Come on, just give it a try,
It’ll make you feel so good
it’s really an amazing high.”
Finally one gloomy day
as I was feeling especially low,
I thought maybe this hit
was the way to go.
So, I joined them one day
and an addict I became,
I found that I was involved
in a life or death game.
My brain was hammered hard
my heart beat loud and fast,
Sometimes I would cry and say
happiness I’ve found at last.
I did my very best to pass
this high around,
I wanted everyone to know the feeling
I had found.
So many people would say
it’s just a worthless crutch,
Even with a ten-foot pole
they would not begin to touch.
I was laughed at and scorned
for the addiction in me,
They would not believe it would make
them happy and free.
I said, “OK
but if you change your mind,
There‘s plenty of dealers
like me easily you can find.”
Still, I look for new prospects
‘though not to lead them astray,
To addict them to Jesus
the ONE and ONLY WAY.
