Too Late in Life

I once saw a sign
that said life begins a fifty,
Who ever wrote that garbage
must think torture is really nifty.

Because this late in the game
that’s just about all there is,
You’re just one big bottle of champagne
that’s lost all its fizz.

It hurts just to get up
it’s agony to try to move,
Whoever thought that this is the beginning
their sanity they should have to prove.

Or maybe they’ve been sheltered from
having to work and slave,
And feeling like one foot
is already in the grave.

So, if life is beginning at fifty
I should have coasted the first forty or so,
Because there’s no way I can make
the second half of the show.
