Taming a Yankee
At one point in time
Yankees were strange to me,
The only ones I’ve ever seen
were in pictures or on TV.
I knew they talked kind of funny
other things were done in a different way,
So I just naturally figured in “Yankee- land”
they would always stay.
But, my figuring was way off base
as my fate was already planned,
For a sweet and pretty Yankee
was headed for my arms to land.
When my arms caught this Yankee
they held on with all their might,
To make sure this pretty babe
could never again take flight.
Now, it’s been so many years
I think she’s grounded for good,
I don’t think she’d fly away
even if she could.
I’ve learned a lot about Yankees
while making an “Okie” out of this one,
But, with some of her strange Yankee ways
I guess she’ll just never be done.
I still get some laughs when
her Yankee quirks pop out,
But that’s what makes her who she is and
I love her without a doubt.
