THE ADVANCE TO OUR END
As the wagons rolled westward
our people should have knew,
Life as we had lived it was going
to be through.
The white man saw the land
to expand their way of life,
The Indian was expendable
white man felt it was his right.
Just to take what he wanted
as he always in the past had known,
No love or compassion
was likely to be shown.
Fiercely and bravely we
resisted his bold advance,
But his numbers alone gave us
so little chance.
The white man over ran us
there was nothing we could do,
But, a very worthy adversary
that much for sure he knew.
