SEEKING THE GREAT SPIRIT
Like a majestic beacon
the fire draws the villagers around,
For, tonight they must dance and
mix their voices with the tom-toms sound.
To gain The Great Spirit’s favor
to atone for all their misdeeds,
They ask for a successful hunt
for, the buffalo fills many of their needs.
Lifting their voices in praise
dancing to the beat of Mother Earth,
The villagers hope to show The Almighty Great Spirit their worth.
The ceremony is sacred
in their hearts, the meaning is buried deep,
They feel at one with nature and believe blessings from The Great Spirit
they will reap.
