Little Sparrow's Unwelcomed Guest
Sleep eluded Little Sparrow so he was dressed and gone by first light,
He’s a very confused little warrior after the encounter with Morning Star last night.
He headed for Eagle Ridge
he needed to think the events of last night through,
For something strange had happened and he knew not at all what to do.
The little warrior was deep in thought as he sat down on his favorite log,
His feelings were tied up in knots
his brain was shrouded in fog.
Something touched the boy’s back
it’s a mixture of cold and wet,
With his bravado thrown to the wind
he screams like a demon he has met.
He hits the ground running
his feet pounding way,
Faster than Brother Wolf is
a scared Little Sparrow this day.
After running in a blind panic
over his shoulder he glances back,
He sees a little wolf pup running
away not coming to attack.
He’s glad no one is around
for embarrassed is the warrior to be,
But, look at the noble wolf
he’s as sacred as me.
He can’t see the little ones’ mother so he’s probably an orphan with no place to live,
I believe I’ll take him with me and
a home to him I’ll give.
Little Sparrow’s heart is happy
his excitement he can not hide,
Who else has Brother Wolf as
a companion at their side?
As the pair enters the village, their world is turned upside down,
The newcomer is not at all welcome
as the village dogs show with a frown.
They came from all directions
the little pup was terrified,
The only thing on his mind was
to find a place to hide.
He ducks into the nearest tee-pee
to escape the howling pack,
As the hoard follows in pursuit the pup squirms his way out the back.
As the attackers pour through the opening searching for the little prey,
Little Sparrow thinks it’s time to leave as he quickly backs away.
Poor Little Sparrow, trouble walks in his moccasins once more,
If only his father’s wise teachings in his heart
would the Little Sparrow store.
