Tending the Fire
In many ways a child is like a fire
it could shine like a beacon of its own desire.
Or you may have to stir it
so its light may reach higher.
If you give it too much leeway
it could get out of hand,
But smother it tight and
its spark could be less than grand.
So tend it steadily
with wisdom and care,
And it will always be with you
with its warmth to share.
