The Whirlwinds

If you’ve ever seen a whirlwind on
a hot Oklahoma day,
Just imagine one for each grandchild
each time they come to stay.

You didn’t know there was so much
here until you’ve seen it scattered about,
If you try to slow them down
they may just stop and pout.

Then they have that certain way
to make you feel so bad,
With quivering lips they say they’re sorry
and you know again you’ve done been had.

You hug them tight and say
that’s okay even though your nerves are worn and frayed,
Then the whirlwinds are off again to find something
to explore another room to raid.
